Sankeien Garden

Sankeien Garden is a large garden with 10 buildings designated as National Important Cultural Properties, which opened to the public in 1906. Sankei Hara, a businessman and tea ceremony entrepreneur, designed the landscape. Relocated old buildings from Kyoto, Wakayama and other famous locations were arranged to harmonize with the garden. You can see many historic buildings along with the seasonal plants and flowers of the area, while experiencing the culture in a unique way. In addition, Sankeien Garden emphasizes training and supporting emerging artists. It is said that Ryuin, the work of modern Japanese painter, Yokoyama Taikan, came to life in this park.

Downtown Yokohama

Yokohama is also the gateway through which Japan first welcomed western culture like beer, cocktails and jazz music. Even today there are plenty of authentic hangouts and bars that centre around these cultures, especially around the areas of Yoshidamachi, Noge and the famous Chinatown or Chukagai in downtown Yokohama. Chukagai offers an array of authentic Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants, souvenir shops and nightlife entertainment that attracts tourists from across Japan.

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

These historic red brick storehouses were built more than 100 years ago in the Meiji and Taisho periods and used as a bonded warehouse. Today, they have been transformed into a cultural and commercial facility. The red brick buildings house cafes, restaurants and shops. There is also an event space, a hall and a multi-use space. You will find a wide range of programmes available throughout the year. At night, the buildings are illuminated. This light glints off the water and creates a fantastic mood.
