Their places in the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy 2011 may have already been confirmed, but there was still the matter of the FIRA European Under 19 title to be decided when Georgia and Russia met at the Stade Roi Baudouin in Brussels on Saturday.

Georgia ultimately ran out convincing 38-7 winners over their neighbours, their greater physicality resulting in tries by centre David Losaberidze (2), flanker Giga Tkhilaishvili, wing Giorgi Abramidze and replacement Levan Gogolashvili.

Russia, who proved the surprise package of the 2010 Trophy on home soil in Moscow by finishing third behind champions Italy and Japan, scored a late try through wing Nikolay Zaporzhin, but it was nothing more than a consolation score.

The qualification of Georgia and Russia has swelled the confirmed participants for the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy 2011 to six with Zimbabwe (Africa), Japan (Asia) and Uruguay (South America) joined by Samoa (Oceania), the side relegated from this year's IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina.

Romania, the 2009 JWRT champions, survived a late rally from hosts Belgium to win the third place play-off 25-17. Number 8 Razvan Ailenei scored two of Romania's four tries as they led 25-5 at the hour mark, before Belgium rallied to set up a tense finale.

Portugal finished fifth overall after beating their neighbours Spain 22-15. Only two points separated the sides at half time before tries from flanker Filipe Pereira and wing Francisco Correia edged Portugal clear with Spain only able to score a late consolation try.

The battle to avoid bottom spot in the eight team tournament was a hotly-contested affair and one only settled four minutes from time when scrum half Konrad Pietrzyk kicked the conversion to Filip Kowalczyk's try to snatch a 16-15 victory.
