Hungary have moved up four places in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings powered by Capgemini after kicking off their Rugby Europe Conference Pool B campaign with a record 53-10 win in Pool B against Austria.
In what was the first meeting between the teams in nine years, Hungary outscored their hosts six tries to one in Mattersburg to register their highest score and biggest win in a fixture that dates back to 1992.
The win was worth 1.22 points which was enough to lift Hungary above Nigeria, Zambia, Bermuda and Jamaica and into 66th place.
Denmark are also on the up, moving from 73rd to 71st place, after a 36-8 win over Andorra in Pool A.
In the only other Conference fixture, Moldova beat Turkey 33-14 in Pool C.
Meanwhile, at Rugby World Cup 2023, Japan were the only team to improve their position in victory, moving up one place to 12th thanks to their 28-22 win over Samoa.
Samoa drop two places to 14th – their lowest ranking since November 2022 – and as a result, Georgia find themselves one place better off, in 13th, despite losing 17-12 to Fiji.
