The Sudamérica Rugby 4 Naciones concluded this Sunday at the Héroes de Curupaytí Stadium in Asunción with Brazil successfully retaining their title as the only undefeated team.
The Brazilians defeated host nation Paraguay 41-22 in a match in which the winning team scored six tries and the Yacarés crossed with a penalty try and two other tries.
Among the Brazilian scorers were full-back Guilherme Coghetto, in his last match for the national team.
“I had no better way to end my career than with a title,” he told Brazil Rugby. "I'm going to miss playing with this group, but now that I'm going to work as a coach, I have a tough job ahead of me."
Brazil finished the tournament with the maximum 15 points available, having won all three games with bonus points and scoring 20 tries.
In the opening match, Josh Reeves' team defeated Chile XV 27-12, before going on to defeat Colombia 64-7 in the second round.
“It was an honour to defend our colours and play for all those who could have been here, for every rugby player in Brazil. We continue on the right path, growing," said captain Gabriel Paganini.
Paraguay's title chances also rested on the outcome of the Brazil match as they, too, had won both their first two matches, defeating Colombia 50-7 and Chile XV 29-27.
Chile XV ended with a single victory against a Colombian team that, not having played in Super Rugby Americas, struggled to keep apace with their rivals.
