France Sevens head into this weekend's ninth and final round of the HSBC Sevens World Series in 12th place in the overall standings.

Last season Frederic Pomarel's side ended the season ninth, and while Les Bleus could improve on their position this weekend, their head coach believes his side has struggled to find a level of consistency this season.

Two Cup quarter-finals have been met with one Shield, in Dubai, and two Bowl titles in Australia and Glasgow, but players like Terry Bouhraoua, Jean Baptiste Gobelet, Paul Albaladejo and Vincent Deniau have all missed parts of the season through injury.

"It has been a strange season for us," said Pomarel.

"We have had many injuries, and some ups and downs, but that is Sevens. We have to now look forward to next season and the most important thing for me is to have all my players fit in August.

"We want to start next season well, and if we do, why can't we try for a higher position next season?

"If we have Virimi Vakatawa and Paul Bonnefond available too, that is what I want, and I think if Terry Bouhraoua has shorter hair, it will be better."

France's best performance came in South Africa, where they reached the Plate final, but the heights of reaching a Cup final in each of the last two seasons have long been forgotten.

But Pomarel is optimistic and having impressed on day two in Glasgow, and with a tournament as close to home as it gets in London this weekend, will be looking to end the season on a high.

"We had a good tournament in Glasgow, with four good games and a difficult one against Canada, who are now a big team.

"It should be easier for us in these two tournaments, not having to deal with the travel and jet lag, but in the other tournaments it if difficult for France and the other European teams.

"This is as close to home as it gets and hopefully we can finish the season well."
