Pedro Leal's try for Portugal has been named the first ever fans' favourite try, winning the award of the 2012/13 HSBC Sevens World Series.

Throughout the season the Rugby family have been voting on their favourite try from each of the 'Seven of the best' videos from Australia, Dubai, South Africa, New Zealand, USA, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Glasgow and London with the winning try from each then entering a final vote.

The nine favourite tries from the season were put to the public vote to find an overall winner, with fans able to vote on a poll at facebook.com/irbsevens or by using #FansFaveTry on Twitter.

Portugal's captain Leal, also known as 'popcorn', scored against Samoa in the pool stages of the 2012 Dubai Sevens and his try received 48 per cent of the votes to beat the likes of Matias Moroni, Joji Ragamate, Sean Duke and Cory Allen.

Despite losing the match 24-19 with the final play, Leal's try had drawn the scores level at 19-19. Having turned the ball over in their own half, Leal received the ball before showing brilliant skill to outsmart the eventual Dubai champions' (Samoa) defence.

Having finished 14th after the Glasgow Sevens, Portugal had to re-qualify as a core side at the London Sevens, which they did by beating Russia in the third place play-off to ensure they will compete at all of the rounds on the 2013/14 HSBC Sevens World Series which begins on Australia's Gold Coast on 12-13 October.
