New Zealand won the 2011 International Rugby Sevens Adelaide, the sixth leg of the 2010/11 HSBC Sevens World Series, beating South Africa 28-20 in the Cup final.

It is their fourth Cup win of the season and leaves them on 134 points, 13 ahead of England on 121, with Samoa (100), South Africa (92) and Fiji (90) in third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Tomasi Cama, who surpassed Amasio Raoma's tally to become New Zealand's all time leading points scorer, added 18 points in the final, taking his tally to 1172 and fifth in the overall points list, capping an outstanding fortnight for the playmaker.

Earlier, Wales defeated Fiji in a pulsating semi final and then Argentina 14-7 in the Plate final to gain 12 Series points, whilst USA picked up four points after beating Kenya 17-10 in the Bowl final. Japan won the first silverware on day two beating Tonga 22-5 in the Shield final.

Gordon Tietjens' side eased into the final, beating defending champions Samoa 33-17 in the semis thanks to Frank Halai's hat-trick after a 47-7 victory against Argentina in the first quarter final on day one.

2011 USA Sevens champions South Africa beat England 19-0 in the second semi final with tries from Branco du Preez, Sibusiso Sithole and Tshotsho Mbovane following victory against Fiji in their quarter final, a repeat of the Cup final in Las Vegas, coming from 12-0 down to win 24-14.

Cama, who is now just six points short of Santiago Gomez Cora in the all time points scoring list, added a further 25 points in the quarter and semi finals.

Earlier, World Series champions Samoa defeated hosts Australia 19-14 in the second quarter final despite trailing 14-7 at half time and England narrowly beat Wales 17-12 with a Ben Gollings penalty and Dan Norton's try saving tackle proving decisive.

Wales beat Pumas to Plate

Wales beat Argentina 14-7 in the Bowl final, a repeat of their victory in the 2009 RWC Sevens final. Despite being down to nine men through injury, Wales took a 7-0 lead into half time with Alex Cuthbert once again showing fine form. 

Diego Palma drew the scores level two minutes into the second half but captain Jevon Groves scored the decisive try on his birthday to also give Wales 12 Series points.

The two Plate semi finals on day two of the 2011 Adelaide Sevens provided some of the best viewing for the fans at the Adelaide Oval with both matches being concluded with the final play.

First Argentina's Francisco Merello broke the hosts' hearts in a 31-28 victory before Wales' Cuthbert, scoring his fifth try of the weekend, crossed in their 22-21 win to set up a repeat of the RWC Sevens final. The winner will receive 12 Series points.

In the first semi final, the lead changed hands no fewer than five times in the match, Jacob Taylor thinking he had sealed a 28-26 vicotry with seconds left on the clock, before Merello scored his second of the match after the buzzer had sounded.

Wales, beating Fiji for just the fifth time in World Series history, had taken 12-0 lead but tries from Mitieli Nacagilevu, David Batiratu and Sailosi Rabonaqica had looked to send Fiji through. It was Cuthbert, however, who stole the show - first scoring with seconds remaining, before showing incredible composure to score the decisive try in the corner.  

Four points for USA in Bowl

USA collected four more Series points after beating Kenya 17-10 in the final of the Bowl. Two Colin Hawley tries and one from Shalom Suniula cancelled out Collins Injera and Biko Ademia's efforts in a pulsating final at the Adelaide Oval. The result leaves them with 10 points in the standings in 10th position.

In their semi final USA booked their place in the final, scoring five tries in their 29-19 victory against Scotland with Hawley, captain Matt Hawkins, Taylor Mokate, Peter Tiberio and Miles Craigwell all crossing in the win to set up the match with Kenya.

Benjamin Ayimba's side became the first through to the Bowl final after thanks to tries from captain Humphrey Kayange (2), Injera and William Ambaka in their victory against France.

Earlier, Kenya beat Papua New Guinea in the first match of day one winning 26-17 despite trailing 17-12. Kayange, scoring his 100th try in World Series histor, and his brother Injera completed the victory.

In the other quarter finals France proved too strong for Tonga, winning 21-17 thanks to two tries from Julien Jane, Scotland scored four tries against the Cook Islands in their 28-0 victory and USA beat Japan 22-19 with the final play of the match.

In a repeat of the 2011 Hong Kong Sevens Bowl final Japan were denied a result reversal as Paul Emerick snatched a 22-19 victory for USA after the buzzer had sounded.

Silverware for Japan in Adelaide

Japan beat Tonga 22-5 to lift the first silverware at the 2011 Adelaide Sevens. Despite going 5-0 down to Macquire Tatoala, tries from Lepuha Latuila, Shuetsu Narita, Pohiva Lotoahea and Lote Tuqiri secured the victory for Murata Wataru's Japan. 

Earlier, Tonga booked their place in the Shield final after a dramatic match with Shane Howarth's Papua New Guinea whilst Japan were too strong for the Cook Islands.

In the first semi final between Tonga and PNG the scores were tied 19-19 at the end of normal time before Sailosi Palei crossed for the decisive try. In normal time Albert Levi has scored a hat-trick for PNG, taking his tournament tally to five.

Japan scored five tries to one in their victory over Ramsey Tomokino's Cook Islands with Katsuyuki Sakai scoring 16 of their points in the 31-21 victory, helping his side with two tries and three conversions.
