Following the IRB's recent announcement of the pools and match schedule for the South African leg of the 2010/11 HSBC Sevens World Series, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer has encouraged all fans to show their support for one of South Africa's annual sporting highlights.

Meyer has called on the country's rugby fans to support and attend the two-day tournament with more "gees" than ever before.

"I will be attending the tournament to show my support for this fantastic event, and encourage the fans to take full advantage of the surrounding tourist attractions on the Garden Route," he said.

"International events like this, televised to the rest of the world, really show what the Western Cape is capable of.

"The town of George and its Outeniqua Park Stadium have proved year after year that they are more than capable of hosting this World Class event.

"Over and above the excitement of the fast-paced rugby, George has many picturesque tourist offerings nestled along its green belt.

"George has already proven its capability and has a place in the hearts of thousands of rugby fans that make their annual trip down the Garden Route to witness sporting excellence at its best.

"It also has the infrastructure to host international teams and their support staff, as well as international fans.

The Western Cape is the home of Sevens rugby (in South Africa), let's make every effort to continue welcoming the teams to our beautiful province and its world class sporting facilities."

The Emirates Airline South Africa Sevens will take place at the Outeniqua Park Stadium on 10-11 December in George.
