Samoa have scored 161 unanswered points and Japan 206 for the concession of only two penalty goals in dominating the opening two rounds of their respective regional junior events in Apia, Samoa and Bangkok, Thailand.

Samoa's Under 20s suffered relegation from the IRB Junior World Championship in 2010 and their current Under 19 side will qualify directly for the 2011 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy.

They have been hugely impressive on home soil at Apia Park, seeing off first Tahiti 109-0 and then American Samoa 52-0. They next face Papua New Guinea on 30 August in what is likely to be their most testing match before the final ranking games on 3 September.

Japan need to win their event, being held in Bangkok over three match days from 22 to 28 August, in order to book their place at the 2011 World Trophy.

So far they have beaten Singapore 114-3 and Sri Lanka 92-3 to underline their total superiority and in the final face Hong Kong, who themselves have recorded two hard-fought wins against Malaysia, 24-17 and Thailand, 18-12.

Earlier, in Asia's Under 19 Division 2 tournament in Laos, the Philippines took the spoils ahead of Kazakhstan, Iran, India and Laos.
