The southern hemisphere giants may have returned home after the autumn internationals and the Rugby World Cup 2011 Pool Allocation Draw, but there are still two matches remaining in the European Nations Cup in 2008.

Only one of them will be able to impact the IRB World Rankings, the Division 3A encounter between Serbia and Andorra in Smederevo on Saturday when both sides will be hoping to record a first European Nations Cup 2010 victory.

The first ever meeting between these two sides will see Andorra defending their position as the higher placed in the IRB World Rankings at 64th, eight places and just under two rating points ahead of their hosts Serbia.

An away victory for Andorra could see them climb four or five places, depending on the winning margin, with Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Thailand, Niue and potentially Slovenia all slipping one position as a result.

For Serbia, losing a second match at home after a 41-0 loss to Armenia in September will result in a slide of at least four places, dropping them beneath Denmark, Botswana, St Vincent & The Grenadines and Solomon Islands to a new low of 76th.

By contrast if Serbia can record their first win in this two-year competition, which doubles as the region’s qualifying process for Rugby World Cup 2011, then they could potentially become the higher ranked of these two nations.

A simple victory would see Andorra slide four places to 68th and Serbia rise three to sit directly below their visitors. However a win by more than 15 points and Serbia would jump to 67th with Andorra sliding a further two places to 70th.

The only other European Nations Cup 2010 match this weekend takes place in Episkopi where Cyprus entertain Monaco in Division 3D – the only division which is not part of the region’s qualifying process for RWC 2011.

Cyprus will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition, but the match will not impact the IRB World Rankings as they are not yet a Member Union of the International Rugby Board and therefore not ranked.

The IRB World Rankings update every Monday at 12:00 UK time.
