The year of 2007 has witnessed some scintillating rugby, both on the global stage with the sixth World Cup and a nail-biting conclusion to the IRB Sevens World Series, and also on a regional basis in the Pacific islands and north America.

We bring you a quick reminder of the winners in each of the International Rugby Board tournaments which took place in 2007, from international to representative and age grade to seniors.

RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007
Twenty years on from the inaugural tournament, France hosted a World Cup to remember as South Africa lifted the coveted Webb Ellis Cup after beating England 15-6, while Argentina enjoyed a dream run, Portugal a debut to remember, Georgia a first ever RWC victory and Fiji a return to the quarter-final arena. For others, the tournament failed to live up to expectations as Wales and Ireland missed out on the last eight and tournament favourites’ New Zealand’s wait for another success rumbles on to 2011 after their quarter-final exit to France. IRB SEVENS WORLD SERIES
The 2006/07 champion was only decided in the last match of the last tournament with New Zealand's back-to-back victories in London and Edinburgh seeing them pip Fiji to the crown by two points - albeit only after an ever improving Wales stunned the islanders in the quarter-finals. A seventh title in eight Series for Gordon Tietjens' men, who were named Sevens Team of the Year and their speedster Afeleke Pelenise the Sevens Player of the Year. MORE >>

IRB UNDER 19 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
New Zealand's next generation of players banished the disappointment of two successive final defeats to lift the last ever IRB Under 19 World Championship crown with a dominant 31-7 defeat of South Africa in Belfast, Northern Ireland, back in April. Chris Smith lifted the trophy at Ravenhill, while Italy finished top of Division B after beating Canada 22-3 in a tense final. MORE >>

IRB PACIFIC NATIONS CUP
Australia A entered the fray as the tournament expanded to six teams, but even they were unable to stop the Junior All Blacks preserving their unbeaten record to defend the title. Samoa were the leading Pacific island nation, while Tonga upset Fiji and the latter came within a whisker of defeating Australia A, but ultimately had to settle for a 14-14 draw after Lachlan Turner's late try. MORE >>

IRB PACIFIC RUGBY CUP
Tau'uta Reds had enjoyed a one-point victory over Upolu Samoa in the round robin stages of the IRB Pacific Rugby Cup, but when it came to the final in Nuku'alofa it was the Samoans who ran out 35-15 winners to succeed Savai'i Samoa as champions of the six-team representative competition. This year's tournament was fiercely contested with half of the matches decided by a margin of three points or less. MORE >>

IRB NATIONS CUP
Six teams converged on the new 'Arcul de Triumf' national stadium in Bucharest to contest the IRB Nations Cup with the Emerging Springboks claiming the title after beating defending champions Argentina A 24-10 in the final. Georgia finished third, on points difference from host nation Romania with Italy A and Namibia unable to record a victory in the tournament. MORE >>

IRB NORTH AMERICA 4
Canada West scored 24 second half points to storm to a convincing 43-11 victory over USA Falcons in the IRB North America 4 Championship final in July, successfully defending the inaugural title they won in 2006. USA Hawks ended on a high with a narrow 34-29 defeat of Canada East to finish third overall in the tournament featuring two representative sides from both Canada and USA. MORE >>

IRB AWARDS
Bryan Habana, the leading try scorer at RWC 2007 with eight, was named IRB Player of the Year as newly crowned world champions South Africa were also named Team of the Year and Jake White the Coach of the Year. Try of the Year though went to Takudzwa Ngwenya, the USA Eagles wing who memorably sidestepped Habana and raced away to score in their Pool A finale. MORE >>
