The 2015-16 edition of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series may have come to a close but it has left plenty of fans across the globe wanting more as it made its mark not only on the pitch but across social media.

It was a record-breaking series in all aspects, but on social media there was huge growth across the year showing the appetite for online content, delivered just minutes after the moments had happened on the pitch. There were 61 million video views on social media platforms across the 10 rounds, with the likes of Snapchat, Instagram, Vine, Twitter and Facebook all proving popular. The HSBC London Sevens proved to be the biggest hit in terms of video views, with a colossal 6.4 million alone on the final round of the series. But which were the most iconic moments from each of the rounds?

TUWAI IN DUBAI

Anybody who has followed rugby sevens will know of Fiji's Pio Tuwai. A mountain of a man but with some of the most delicate skills on the series. Behind-the-back passing and a sidestep a player half his size would be proud of. On the very first leg of the series, Tuwai brought out his box of magic tricks against New Zealand.

EZCURRA STEPS UP IN CAPE TOWN

Argentina's Bautista Ezcurra had made himself known at the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2015 with some solid performances. His skills had obviously caught the eye of Argentina coach Santiago Gomez Cora who slotted Ezcurra into the sevens set-up immediately. At the inaugural HSBC Cape Town Sevens, Ezcurra showed that in rugby sevens, anyone can beat anyone. Stepping up, he slotted this great drop goal to help his side progress to the Cup semi-final by beating New Zealand.

SONNY BILL SHOW IN WELLINGTON

The dream of Rio 2016 brought plenty of stars across from the 15s game this series but arguably the biggest of all was double Rugby World Cup winner Sonny Bill Williams. Expectant fans across the globe watched on as Sonny Bill took to the field in Wellington and against South Africa in the pool stages he didn't disappoint with a textbook offload.

SYDNEY BRINGS THE "DAB"

Celebrations are a big thing in sevens with the likes of Phoenix Hunapo-Nofoa and Kurt Baker both bringing their own unique moves to the pitch after scoring tries. In Sydney back in February, it seemed that the Super Bowl had caught the eye of a few players and particularly the "dab" from Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

FIJI SHOW THEY ARE STRONGER THAN WINSTON

Heading into their second Cup final of the series in Las Vegas, Fiji had an added motivation to bring back the silverware. Cyclone Winston had devastated the Pacific island, causing widespread damage and loss to families across the country. Captain Osea Kolinisau had said he wanted to "bring hope" to his fellow Fijians back home, and with a stunning comeback against Australia in the Cup final his side did just that.

NEW ZEALAND BACK ON SONG IN VANCOUVER

After their double win in Wellington and Sydney, New Zealand had lost out in the Cup quarter-final to South Africa in Las Vegas. In Vancouver, they had the chance to redeem themselves against Neil Powell's side at the inaugural HSBC Canada Sevens. A tactical masterclass from New Zealand head coach Sir Gordon Tietjens earned them a 19-14 win and their third Cup of the series with four rounds left.

DANNY BARRETT GOES ON A RAMPAGE

USA Sevens powerhouse Danny Barrett is renowned for his strength. The hirsute USA wrecking ball got his chance in Hong Kong against Argentina where he decided to bump off two Argentina defenders before passing the ball for his team to score.

ALL ABOUT KENYA IN SINGAPORE

The beautiful thing about the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is that you are never quite sure what you are going to get. New Zealand used to be the dominant force, but nowadays it's a more open affair. There have been seven different winners in the last 11 tournaments, and the first big shock of the series was in Singapore when Kenya won their first-ever Cup, a stunning and iconic moment for the series.

SAMOA SHOW THEIR JOIE DE VIVRE

Having won the series in 2009-10, Samoa know the taste of victory. On the 2015-16 edition of the series however they had failed to compete at a consistent level, but in Paris we saw an entirely different Samoa take to the pitch. 26-7 down at half-time to Fiji, Samoa scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to take an incredible win in front of a charged up Parisian crowd.

SCOTLAND STUN AS FIJI SECURE SERIES

Kenya won in Singapore. Samoa won in Paris. Surely there could not be another upset in London? The signs were there when Calum MacRae's side dismantled England 17-0 in the Cup quarter-final. Then USA were swept aside 24-17. A final with South Africa beckoned and in true breathtaking fashion Scotland scored two tries in the final minute to scrape a 27-26 win. A fitting end to the series, which was wrapped up by Fiji after some incredible performances on the series. Ben Ryan's side won three Cups along the way and won back-to-back series titles for the first time in Fiji's history. We went LIVE on the pitch with Scotland and Fiji after the series ended at Twickenham, check out the action below.
