Without noticing, time flies. We are ready to play in the last two rounds of this season before we head to Rio, something that seemed in the distant future is now just around the corner.
We continue to work hard to be at our best and we are hoping to have good tournaments in Paris and London. The Asian tour had some negatives and positives for us. Of course, not making it through to the quarter-finals in Hong Kong was a negative.
We arrived a couple of days earlier but we always struggle in the first tournament of each tour. Hong Kong was exactly that. We never felt comfortable and it hurt missing out because, as always happens in sevens, it was because of small details.
Once we were acclimatised in Singapore, we had a good tournament and were very close to making it into the final. Kenya managed to beat us in the semis, but it wasn’t because of that great drop goal from Collins Injera. Before that we gave them a get out of jail card when they scored a try. Then came the penalty. But we were nonetheless happy with the overall performance.

The big picture now is Rio 2016 and we are working towards that. Of course, our goal is to prepare the team for that but we also don’t want to fall below sixth in the series standings. We'd like to rise higher if possible as our ranking will determine our seeding for the Olympic Games.
For these two tournaments we have added Matias 'Tute' Moroni and Santiago Cordero, two players that showed how good they are in Rugby World Cup 2015 so I doubt they will in any way feel pressure to show us they can make it to the Games.
In the first few training session it was clear they had to modify some of the things that are normal to them in 15s. Space and speed are different and they were red in the face showing how tired they were, even despite having great fitness.
They are two great players that have already played sevens though so I am looking forward to having them out there. Javier Rojas has also joined us in Paris, he was a key player for us until he moved to France but we want to test them in a tournament environment before we decide on the final Olympic squad.
We are still hoping to be able to select Juan Imhoff if his club frees him to play in London too. They will have to assess a few injuries within their squad and then let us know. If he is unavailable we would also like him in a training camp we will have in Brazil in July to help us acclimatise. It will be harder for him then though as the real rhythm you pick up in tournaments.
The season finale is fast approaching and the anxiety levels rise in every sense, for players and for us as staff members. It already hurts to think I will have to chose 12 players for Rio and some that have worked tirelessly might lose out, breaking their Olympic dream.
For the time being, I'd rather not even think about that.
