A man-of-the-match performance by sevens star Jacob Ojee saw Kenya beat Uganda 16-5 on Saturday to retain the Elgon Cup.
Having won the first leg 16-13, Uganda scored first in the return match through Ronald Kanyanya to stretch their advantage to eight points but tries from Billy Omondi and Ojee, who also kicked two penalties, saw the Simbas take the trophy 29-21 on aggregate.
Despite picking up 1.2 points for the win, Kenya remain in 32nd place but with less than a point now between them and the side immediately above them, Korea.
Uganda drop four places to 39th with Lithuania, Zimbabwe, Ukraine and Czechia the sides to benefit.
Zimbabwe were also in action on the weekend, their Victoria Cup encounter with Zambia ending in a 39-10 victory inside a packed stadium at the Harare Sports Club.
By half-time, Zimbabwe led 15-3 after debutant Daniel Mango and Daniel Capsopoulos scored a try each. Capsopoulos crossed again in the second half and a brace from Takudzwa Chieza, another newcomer to the test arena, saw the Sables to a comfortable victory.
The win did not come with any ranking reward, however, given that the sides are separated by nearly 10 points.
