Paul Treu has added some much needed firepower to the South Africa Sevens squad for the final two legs of the 2009/10 IRB Sevens World Series in London and Edinburgh.

Fabian Juries, Mzwandile Stick and Neil Powell will all return to Treu's squad for the events at Twickenham on 22-23 May and Murrayfield a week later.

Juries made the last of his 42 tournament appearances at Murrayfield in 2008, but brings with him a wealth of experience as the third highest try-scorer of all time in the IRB Sevens World Series with 173 tries, behind Santiago Gomez Cora (227) and Ben Gollings (198).

Powell and Stick have both recovered from injuries sustained this season and the trio replace JW Jonker, Sampie Mastriet and Branco du Preez - the latter two having been called up to the South Africa Under 20 team for the IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina.

The return of the three stalwarts gives Treu's squad a more familiar look though, after injuries and several call-ups to Super 14 Rugby have meant South Africa have failed to reach the heights of last season when they were crowned IRB Sevens World Series champions for the first time.

"I'm delighted to have some of the familiar faces back," admitted Treu. "I want the team to play better as a unit and to use the possession so much better. If we can achieve that then I'm sure we will progress much further than we have in previous tournaments."

Fijian hoodoo

The Springboks will want to end the season on a high having failed to reach a Cup semi final all Series, and winning just one of the six Plate finals they have competed in.

They will face Fiji, Canada and France in the pool stages at Twickenham with New Zealand, Italy and Russia their opponents in Scotland where they were crowned World Series champions last year.

Fiji have had a slight hoodoo over South Africa this year, however, beating them five times in their six meetings and the Springbok Sevens have not beaten New Zealand in three attempts, although they have won all of their matches against their other pool opponents.

South Africa currently lie sixth in the overall standings, 20 points behind England, and just two points ahead of Kenya.

South Africa squad: Mpho Mbiyozo, Chase Minnaar, Frankie Horne, Cecil Afrika, Neil Powell, Kyle Brown, Fabian Juries, Ryno Benjamin, Chris Dry, Mzwandile Stick, Hoffman Maritz, MJ Mentz.
