WXV Global Series on social media: wins, records and family matters

From debuts celebrated on the stands by family members to records that were pulverised by living legends, the second round of the WXV Global Series and WXV Global Series Challenger has delivered lasting memories.

The second weekend of WXV Global Series rugby delivered another scintillating round of games, and we are already looking forward to round three. However, before we enjoy the world's best players showcasing their remarkable on-field skills and everlasting passion for the game, let's take a break and look at some of their most entertaining social media posts from the past few days.

The defence doctor is in the house

The third week of the WXV Global Series opened with the big news that Shaun Edwards has joined the Red Roses as a consultant, adding an extra layer of threat and quality to the world champions' defence. Having helped Wales and France's men's sides to multiple Six Nations titles, Edwards joins the England fold.

With his title-winning CV, he brings his expertise to a team intent on continuing its reign, and English fans are eager to see what changes the master of defence will make.

Record breaker

Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi, a combination of three names that causes opponents to tremble just by hearing it, has become Italy's record try scorer with 21 touchdowns for the Azzurre.

Selected as Italy's newest captain, Minuzzi helped steer her side to a 55-21 win over Japan, in which the full-back earned her 50th cap and crossed the whitewash one more time to claim the record.

"Dear Shanelle..."

Wales pulled off one of the best performances of round two of the WXV Global Series, overcoming the Springbok Women at Cardiff Arms Park, with smiles and laughs by the end of the game. Among the happiest on the pitch was Shanelle Williams, who had just made her Wales debut. It was a dream she had cherished for years, so much so that she even asked Saint Nicholas for it in a letter.

With the match's end credits rolling and people celebrating the win in the stands, on the pitch and on social media, one comment stood out among the many others, a message that needed no explanation.

Under city lights

Samoa might not have got the desired result in their match against Spain, but Manusina have played hard, scored a handful of tries and showed progress since landing in Hong Kong China. On the eve of their second match in the WXV Global Series Challenger, the players attended a special jersey presentation ceremony, a celebration made even more memorable by the involvement of their families.

In the end, rugby is far more than a game of sprinting, chasing, tackling, scoring, kicking, and scrummaging; it's also where everlasting memories are made.

Family pride

Since we’re on the subject of parental love, how about this show of support for Bryony Field from her family as she made her starting debut for the formidable Red Roses? The stands were packed and full of support. The players' families turned out in force to cheer them on from start to finish, with Field's family making themselves heard!

Enjoy the mic-up to the end, as it deserves all of your time.

Quiz time

Before we cap off another social media spotlight, we still have time for a last-minute quiz provided by the Azzure. In preparation for their next game, Vittoria Vecchini and Alessandra Frangipani were challenged to answer a few questions about South Africa.

Take the quiz and let us know how well you did.
