The battle for the final place alongside the 11 teams already confirmed for Rio 2016 (Fiji, South Africa, New Zealand, Great Britain, Argentina, USA, France, Kenya, Japan, Australia and hosts Brazil), together with the opportunity to represent rugby and their nation on sport’s biggest stage will ensure a fascinating competition.

World Rugby Chairman Bernard Lapasset said: “We are excited and honoured to be returning to the Olympic stage and the men’s global repechage event in Monaco represents a major milestone on our journey to Rio as we confirm our line-up for the men’s Olympic Games rugby sevens event.

“With a stellar line-up, fascinating pools and iconic location, I am anticipating a highly competitive event in Monaco, full of compelling and exciting action, giving fans a preview of what to expect at Rio 2016.”
