Women's Standings explanation
To take account of the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic which affected some teams ability to participate in some rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2022, and in the interests of fairness, a unique ranking points system was applied to the 2022 Series which sees only the best four out of the six tournament results count towards the Series ranking for each team.
**Great Britain participated in the opening two rounds of the Series in Dubai, as part of the standing agreement to play the full calendar year 2021, before reverting to compete as national unions for the remainder of the 2022 Series, with England participating in the women’s series. England women received 50% of the Series rankings points earned by Great Britain in rounds one and two in Dubai.
*To ensure a fair application of Russia’s sanction, and because Russia has already competed in 4 tournaments, Russia’s series points will be reduced on a pro-rated basis. As the Russian women’s team are suspended for 33% of the season, World Rugby EXCO confirmed that Russia’s series points will be reduced on a pro-rated basis from 56 points to 37 at season end.
