Having missed the end of last season through injury, the powerful Frenchman returned with immediate impact and was named the first-ever DHL Impact Player of the Tournament for Dubai after his enthralling performances.

With his 10 tackles, five line breaks, 19 carries and seven offloads Vakatawa had a hand in all things good about France as they lifted the Bowl on day two of the opening round on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series
France won five games out of six and only losing to New Zealand on route to winning the Bowl Final.
