Rugby World Cup 2021 Tournament Director, Michelle Hooper said: “We’re so excited to announce the amazing Ladi6 is joining the Rugby World Cup 2021 whānau alongside our other incredible artists. I have always loved her music and am sure her performance is going to make this an unforgettable event at Northland Events Centre to kick-off four action-packed match days in Whangārei.”

Speaking on the announcement, Ladi6 said: “It’s going to be incredible to perform in Whangārei and be part of this amazing moment as we celebrate our wāhine toa taking to the field in the women’s Rugby World Cup. I have always loved my time in Te Tai Tokerau and can’t wait to party with our Northland whānau!”

Organisers look forward to a fantastic opening match day at Northland Events Centre which will feature a triple-header of USA v Italy, Japan v Canada and culminating with Wales v Scotland.

A dedicated Festival Zone will play home to Ladi6 during her performance and provide entertainment for the whole whānau as part of a festival of Māori and Pasifika culture with food, entertainment and music throughout the day.

Rugby World Cup 2021 is taking place in New Zealand from 8 October to 12 November, the first time the pinnacle event has been staged in the southern hemisphere. It’s the biggest global event in women’s 15s rugby and will be contested by the top 12 teams in the world at three match venues – Eden Park, Waitākere Stadium and Northland Events Centre.

Unprecedented interest in all four match days at Northland Events Centre means organisers are on track to reach attendance targets, with particularly strong demand for match-day five on 22 October when the Black Ferns take on Scotland. The quarter-finals on 29 October are also attracting strong ticket sales and as the tournament progresses, an uptick in demand is expected as fans take advantage of the opportunity to attend the last Rugby World Cup 2021 matches at Northland Events Centre.
