World Rugby is joining the global sporting community in supporting the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Play True Day on 9 April to help promote the importance of a clean sport.

An annual initiative, Play True Day plays a leading education role for athletes and the wider sporting public about all matters anti-doping, the importance of making the right choices and the range of educational materials available, such as World Rugby’s nutritional supplement videos.

This year, given the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having around the globe, WADA is engaging the global anti-doping community – and all stakeholders in the fight to protect Clean Sport – in solidarity around the theme Play Safe on Play True Day 2020, asking them to share what they are doing and why to curb the spread of the virus.

World Rugby employees have joined unions, competitions and players around the world in promoting the clean sport message via social media, and helping share what they are doing to help combat the spread of COVID-19. The World Rugby team will be wearing their Keep Rugby Clean t-shirts at home, while sharing their tips on social media.

World Rugby General Manager, Anti-Doping Mike Earl said: “We are pleased to be engaging with players and fans around the world in supporting two great initiatives – the continued fight against doping in sport, and combating the spread of COVID-19 through the promotion of safe behaviours, education and best-practice.”

During a bumper 2019 for anti-doping education, World Rugby ran a record-breaking awareness weekend for players, coaches, parents and fans at Rugby World Cup 2019, supported by all 20 teams, the match officials and broadcasters.

Two awareness films were launched during the tournament, helping educate on safe approaches to nutrition and how to avoid the pitfalls of risky supplements, which have been rolled-out across the global rugby family.

This year, World Rugby will be launching a new multi-lingual Keep Rugby Clean website and e-learning materials to enhance its comprehensive online and face-to-face education campaign.
