Cigna has been named the Official Wellness Partner of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

The announcement coincides with the first combined men’s and women’s tournament of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2020 in Dubai on 5-7 December.

A key objective of the partnership is to increase awareness of both mental and physical wellbeing by promoting the positive impact that sport and fitness can have.

Having been an established partner of the Hong Kong Sevens since 2015, Cigna’s partnership of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series will incorporate fan activations hospitality programmes in tournament host cities around the world.

Commenting on the partnership, World Rugby Chief Executive Brett Gosper said: “We are delighted to welcome Cigna to our valued family of partners for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

“Cigna joins at a very exciting time for rugby sevens with the world series featuring a record number of tournaments and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on the horizon. We look forward to working with Cigna on continuing to grow the game of rugby sevens and inspire new audiences globally.”

Patrick Graham, Asia Pacific CEO at Cigna International Markets, added: "Building upon our successful partnership with the Hong Kong Sevens since 2015, Cigna is thrilled to continue our leadership position in advocating for whole person health for body and mind by extending our sponsorship to the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

“As a global health service leader, Cigna is committed to improving the health, wellbeing and peace of mind of those we serve. The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is an ideal and inspirational platform to help people take control of their own wellness and lead happier and healthier lives.”

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2020 kicked off in Glendale, Colorado, in October and moves onto Dubai this weekend. The world series comprises eight women’s tournaments and 10 men’s, with six of those combined events – a record number for the series.

The 2020 season culminates with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where rugby sevens will be played as an Olympic sport for the second time following its successful debut at Rio 2016 where it earned almost 17 million new fans globally.
