Picking up two points for beating higher-ranked opposition, the Welwitschias have overtaken Canada and Portugal and also reached their highest position since November 2017. Los Teros, meanwhile, have slipped below Samoa into 17th place as a result of the defeat.

Elsewhere, the Netherlands concluded their Rugby Europe Trophy campaign with a comfortable 50-3 win away to Lithuania. Already assured of the runners-up spot behind champions Portugal, the Dutch ran in eight tries in a victory that lifts them into the world's top 25 ranked nations for the first time.

Romania's first test against Chile ended in a 27-11 win for the Oaks in Valparaiso but the third of a rating point gained was not enough to lift them any higher than their present position of 18th.

Spain were also given a tough examination on South American soil as they were made to battle hard for a 22-16 win against Brazil. Los Leones picked up just under seven-tenths of a point for the win but remain one place behind Romania.

In the Asia Rugby Championship Top 3, Hong Kong started their title defence with a 47-10 bonus-point win in Incheon against previously unbeaten Korea. Conor Hartley starred for Hong Kong with a hat-trick of tries.

With 1.43 rating points gained, Hong Kong move up to 24th place in the rankings, while Korea stay in 30th.
