A passionate and dedicated administrator and a champion of the global advancement of rugby in his native France, Europe and around the world, Camou succeeded Bernard Lapasset as President of the FFR in 2008 when Lapasset was elected World Rugby Chairman, serving until 2016.

In a global context, Camou represented France on the World Rugby Council between 2008 and 2016 and also served on a number of the International Federation’s standing committees during a period of unprecedented participation, fan and commercial growth.

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont said: “The global rugby family is mourning the loss of a remarkable man and dedicated administrator, who made a significant contribution to the growth and prosperity of the sport in France and on the international stage.

“Pierre was always committed to his beliefs and I respected his passion for rugby, which was at the heart of his contributions and work with World Rugby.

“The thoughts of everyone at World Rugby and the global rugby family are with his family, friends and the French rugby community at this difficult time.”
