Namibia will represent Africa at the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy 2014 in Hong Kong after beating Kenya 51-8 in the final of the Confédération Africaine de Rugby Under 19 Championship final in Nelspruit, South Africa, on Saturday.

The Namibians, who finished eighth at the 2013 edition of the Trophy in Chile earlier this year, turned a slender 15-3 half-time advantage into a comfortable win with tries from Donovan Kandjii, Justin Newman, Janco Venter, Ethan Beukes and Wian Conradie.

They will now take their place at JWRT 2014 alongside hosts Hong Kong, USA, Canada, Tonga and Asian champions Japan, leaving just two places to be filled by the South American and European Under 19 champions in the coming months.

JWRT 2009 hosts Kenya had caused a surprise in beating Zimbabwe, who played on the JWRT stage between 2010 and 2012, on day one in a match that ebbed one way and then the other at Stadium Mbombela.

Kenya had raced into a 10-0 lead with tries from Allan Odiyo and Herman Humwa, but it was Zimbabwe who went in leading 15-10 at half-time. That advantage grew to 20-10 after Lance Chikodzi touched down for his second try of the match in the first minute of the second half.

However, Kenya were not to be denied a place in the final and came roaring back with tries from Humphrey Mulama and a Kevin Ochami double to seal a 29-20 win over the second seeds and move to within one victory of qualifying for JWRT 2014.

Zimbabwe rallied from the defeat to beat Madagascar 21-3 in the third place play-off to avoid relegation to Division B next year. Tunisia will replace Madagascar in the top flight next year after winning the Division B title.
