A product of the famous rugby-playing school Fettes, David Bedell-Sivright made his international debut for Scotland at the age of 19, winning the first of his 22 caps against Wales.

A player of enormous physicality and resilience, he toured South Africa with the 1903 Lions and was appointed captain of the 1904 tourists to Australia and New Zealand. 

Injury restricted the marauding forward to one cap, however he still remained a huge influence on the tour, which saw the Lions win all of their 14 matches, including the three tests, to become the first Lions side to finish the Australian leg of the tour unbeaten. 

After the tour, the four-time Cambridge University Blue settled in Sydney for a year before returning home to continue his medical studies. At the outbreak of World War I he joined the Royal Navy as a surgeon and was killed in action at Gallipoli.
